Old and new…

I know my posts are usually about my adventures and travel but today I thought I’d share with you some of the design and art work that I’ve done.

Some of these are from my college/ university days and some are more recent, some non-confidential pieces I can share from work.

London

For Dan’s birthday I decided to book at trip to London.  I booked a great last minute deal, including First Class tickets on the train.

We  stayed in the Ibis Styles in Kensington and although the room was compact, it was clean, it had everything we needed (even a kettle for a cuppa!) and was a 2 minute walk from Earl’s Court tube station.  Continue reading

Barcelona – Badelona

Barcelona. One of the many places to visit on my bucket list. When we booked our most recent adventure I couldn’t contain my excitement. I found myself looking at old pieces of artwork from high school where I first found my love for Gaudi’s architecture. The colours, the shapes and the unusual! I was so excited! Continue reading

Wombwell Woods

Today we found a real hidden gem for dog walking and the great thing is it’s less than five minutes away from where I live.

I often drive through Wombwell and the area I know as “Wombwell Woods” using it as a shortcut into Barnsley. I’ve lived in Barnsley since I was a child and it still surprises me with its heritage and it’s beauty.  Continue reading

Hamburg

I’m a padbrat and born in Germany and lived in a few different German towns & cities as I grew up. At Christmas I always talk about how Germans does things differently with the nativity windmills, Saint Nikolaus filling our shoes full of sweets at the beginning of December and I always get excited when the Christmas market visits town.

Dan told me to book a few days off work and said we were visiting the Market in Leeds, it was a lovely surprise to end up in Hamburg!

It was freezing cold, with the icy winds coming in from the port – we wrapped up warm and braced ourselves for the cold weather. Hamburg at Christmas has many different Weihnachts markts  and it was good to walk around them all. Continue reading

Rome

Rome is a place that I’d dreamt of going to since I was a child – The Eternal City, the City of Love… When my husband booked it I was so excited… Then the Brexit vote hit, our holiday provider went out of business and we were told our holiday was cancelled.

We called the provider who told us our fights were still booked and we’d need to check with the hotel to see if that had been paid for. I contacted the hotel by email and by phone – I did this almost every week (for around 6 weeks!) and I was assured that everything was still valid and that they were looking forward to seeing us soon. I contacted the hotel again two days before our flight (just to be sure) and was reassured, we were even told by our hotel that we could check in early for no extra charge.

I could finally enjoy my holiday! …..or so I thought. Continue reading

Agia Marina, Crete

Just before my 30th birthday there were whispers of parties and surprises… my worst nightmare! Before anything could be planned my lovely husband booked a few days away to Crete and asked my brother in law to pet/house sit. Panic over!

When we first arrived, I’ll admit, I was very worried. In the transfer from the airport to the hotel we drove through a few shady areas and there is lots of graffiti. Luckily as you enter Agia Marina it looks much better. I loved the lemon trees and cats… lots of cats. Continue reading
